The 18th anniversary of the death of Sir Satcam Boolell was celebrated yesterday in Cipay-Brûlé, Vallée des Prêtes. Born on September 11, 1920 in New Grove in the district of Grand-Port, the politician passed away on March 23, 2006 in Curepipe. He held several key positions within the Labour Party and was an important minister in the governments of Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.
To commemorate the event, in addition to his sons Arvind and Satyajit, several members of the Labour Party made the journey to Cipay-Brûlé, Plaine Verte, to the Samadhi of the man who led the Labour Party from 1982 to 1989 and was a loyal deputy of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, for a wreath-laying ceremony.
In a statement to the press, Arvin Boolell, deeply inspired by the values of Sir Satcam, emphasized that these values have been passed down to the Labour Party. Respecting institutions and having the interests of Mauritians at heart, “Sir Satcam Boolell has always known how to make the right decisions in the most difficult moments,” highlighted the leader of the Labour Party in Parliament, for the well-being of the entire population. For the red MP, Labour values, associated with much emotion and based on reason and economic and social development, will enable the country to emerge victorious.
Responding to a question from the press regarding the parliamentary session planned for Tuesday, March 26, Arvin Boolell stated that it will be a “session of dissolution,” and added that May 1 will be “a May 1 of liberation” for a better Mauritius.
