“We have always found discrimination against artists.”
This is the observation made by singer Bruno Raya, on Thursday morning in front of the press. He was joined by Stephan Rezannah and Jimmy Veerapen, both members of the collective of artistic event organizers.
They all issued a call to artists not to participate in this year’s budget consultations.
Jimmy Veerapen asserts that no project announced in previous budgets, for the proper functioning of the artistic industry, has been realized.
He wonders if there is a willingness on the part of the current government to advance the cause of artists. This is why he declined the invitation to participate in the consultations on Thursday.
He explains that for two years, the event sector has struggled to exist and organizing concerts has become increasingly complicated.
Bruno Raya, on the other hand, took aim at the Minister of Arts, Avinash Teeluck. The latter had stated last Tuesday that several meetings had taken place to identify sites for organizing events. The efforts would continue in this direction.
Reacting to this statement, Bruno Raya exclaimed: “We want Avinash Teeluck to stop lying and stop using parliament to make people believe that everything is fine.”
He questions the future of events. The steps for organizing concerts are taking more and more time and obtaining permits is becoming more difficult.
“We want strictness. We are not going to war against the government. We are coming to find a solution,” affirms Bruno Raya.
He adds that there needs to be a meeting with all stakeholders to enable the sector to thrive better.
