Nidesh Rajkoomar has been re-elected as the president of the Hindu Maha Sabha for the next two years, on Sunday, in Port Louis. Since the outgoing team was the only one in the race, the Electoral Commission automatically elected all 15 candidates from Nidesh Rajkoomar’s team.
In a statement to Le-Mauricien, following the election, Nidesh Rajkoomar, who had no opponents, expressed his satisfaction for the work accomplished in the past years as the president of the Hindu Maha Sabha. His first activity will be organizing the first Shiv Abhisekh on Sunday, 25th February from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the Kashi Viswanath Mandir in Ganga Talao. This will mark the beginning of a series of activities for the Maha Shivaratree celebration. The Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, will be the guest of honor on 3rd March for a cultural evening at the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir in Grand-Bassin, which will also undergo repainting, along with the 12 temples under the responsibility of the Hindu Maha Sabha in Ganga Talao. One of the major projects of the Hindu Maha Sabha is the renovation of its headquarters in Port Louis.
PILGRIMAGE
The pilgrimage to the sacred sites in India known as the Char Dham Yatra is experiencing a high demand this year, and all the seats were booked within a record time of 24 hours after the announcement of three pilgrimages this year, revealed Bhojraj Ghoorbin, president of the Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temples Federation. Thus, the three pilgrimages scheduled for June, September, and October quickly found takers, with the first group of 54 devotees leaving the country on 15th June, followed by 54 others who will be on pilgrimage from 7th to 26th September, and the last batch from 28th September to 17th October, making a total of 162 individuals making the trip this year.
Bhojraj Ghoorbin, president of the MSDTF, attributes this enthusiasm to the special package, costing Rs 59,000, for a 19-day stay including airfare, accommodation, meals, transfers, and visits to Ayodhya with a VIP tour of the Ram Mandir, as well as visits to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Mathura, Haridwar, Lucknow, and Delhi, among others.
