The leader of the MSM believes that Navin Ramgoolam is resorting to Delaying Tactics in front of the Financial Crimes Division in the case of Rs 220 million from Riverwalk.
The Prime Minister and leader of the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM), Pravind Jugnauth, directly attacked the leader of the Labour Party, Navin Ramgoolam, yesterday afternoon, during a party regional committee meeting at No. 8 (Quartier-Militaire/Moka) in St-Pierre. This remark came as part of the mobilization for the political rally in Vacoas for Labor Day on May 1st.
“Zot pe dir ou donn mwa lakes, les mwa gard lakes. Eski ou pou les lisien gardien sosis ? Be ou pou trouve ki pou ariv sosis ? Ala seki zot ete lot kote. Nou nou kone seki nou ete,” declared Pravind Jugnauth. “Kont mwa ki zot pou kapav reprose apar zot bann demagozi ek kritik ki zot fer. Me mwa sirtou kom personn avan tou, kom enn lider, kom Premie minis, dimounn va kapav zize ki kalite Premie minis zot oule,” he added. He indicated that the population will soon have to choose between his team and the opposition.
The MSM leader asked the population to take note of the legal maneuvers of Navin Ramgoolam in the past few days in the case of the Rs 220 million safes of Riverwalk. He recounted the history of this case, stating that the former PM was not only dismissed before the Supreme Court but also before the Privy Council.
“When he pursued him, he had to go to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court said that he has to move forward. He has to respond before the court. He went to ask to appeal to the Privy Council. He took his time with all that. Eventually, the Privy Council said get out, go to the intermediate court to respond. When he came before the Financial Crimes Division court, he hit a roadblock. He said that this division did not exist before, it’s not correct. The court also dismissed him. The court said it is a legally constituted court and before this court itself, he must come to respond,” he emphasized, stating that the leader of the Labour Party is resorting to Delaying Tactics through legal points, which, according to him, would be frivolous, to delay the proceedings of this trial.
Pravind Jugnauth wondered what the leader of the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM), Paul Bérenger, thinks about Navin Ramgoolam’s actions. “When there was an issue with his Medpoint case, he told his MP, his central committee, his militants, that Pravind Jugnauth is using Delaying Tactics and because of that, he is breaking up with MSM even though that was his strength,” he pointed out. He lamented the silence of Paul Bérenger in this context.
He also criticized the leader of the MMM for his absence in Parliament last Tuesday. “When the opposition leader asks a parliamentary question, he doesn’t come at all. He says he won’t come to the assembly because he is not satisfied with the way the PMSD operates. The people have elected him to represent them, he is paid with public funds. Because he is not in a good mood, because he is very annoyed, he will not go. Take note. They need to recognize these actions,” he further stated.
Pravind Jugnauth stated that the upcoming May 1st rally holds crucial importance on the political stage. “It will be the last but one before the general election. It’s even more important. Certainly, it is important that our militants and the population mobilize to come and show that the people are with us and have come to support us,” he made clear, indicating that every polling station will be mobilized to demonstrate the strength of the MSM on the ground.
He continues by affirming that against the MSM, there will be a team of the Labour Party, “infested with drug mafia and immersed in immorality.” He added that his government has kept its word regarding the old-age pension. He listed the various accomplishments of the government in recent years in the areas of road infrastructure, health services, and sports. He called for the mobilization of MSM troops to send a strong political message in this final stretch leading up to the upcoming legislative elections.
