Chaotic situation and rough awakening for the bakers in the Sadally region of Vacoas this morning, Tuesday, March 5th. They were affected by a major power outage.
The officers from the Central Electricity Board (CEB) are still on site, we are told.
“It’s a transformer that blew up around 4:30,” says Nasser Moraby, president of the Bakers’ Association.
This situation has caused significant losses for the bakers this morning. Nasser Moraby explains that “bakeries in the region have suffered huge losses in terms of bread dough.”
He adds that “if the Ministry of Education had issued the announcement earlier following the heavy rain alert, the bakers would not have had to prepare orders for this amount of bread.”
“The bread dough deteriorates and we cannot keep it,” explains another baker from the region. The bakeries will thus have to throw away a portion of the morning’s preparations.
“The bakers are already in a dire situation due to production costs and labor issues,” reminds Nasser Moraby.
Despite these difficulties, the bakers claim to be striving to alleviate the population by maintaining bread production.
