The President of the Labour Party met with the President of the Republic this Monday evening. Patrick Assirvaden claims to have proposed Shakeel Mohamed as the leader of the opposition to replace Xavier-Luc Duval, who submitted his resignation earlier.

Facing the press, Patrick Assirvaden stated: “We have found a consensus within the opposition, between the MMM and the PTr, so that Shakeel Mohamed can temporarily replace Arvin Boolell, who is unwell. A correspondence has been sent to the president asking him to appoint Shakeel Mohamed as the leader of the opposition.”

Assirvaden claims that with the resumption of parliamentary work tomorrow, Tuesday, April 16, it is important for opposition members to know what to do. He also explained the need to review the sitting arrangement in the chamber.

“We hope that a leader of the opposition will be appointed as soon as possible,” supported Patrick Assirvaden.

He also added that he is called to assume the responsibility of the opposition whip. Certainly, I accept this position, he affirmed.

Patrick Assirvaden continued: “I take it with humility and modesty. It is a big job to bring the whole opposition together for better coordination.”
