The lands of the Réduit triangle have been withdrawn from four socio-cultural associations after a new survey and the implementation of a new development plan for this region. This was explained by the Minister of Lands and Housing, Steven Obeegadoo, during a Private Notice Question session focused on this topic. A total of 13 entities had their lands removed in this region.

The four socio-cultural associations have been offered relocation proposals to lands in Côte-d’Or. Three of them have accepted this new location, the minister confirmed. He also announced that the government will fund the construction of four cultural centers for these associations.

“A year ago, the government categorically refused to finance” these associations, observed opposition leader Xavier-Luc Duval. “Now, on the eve of the general elections, it has suddenly found money” for these constructions.

The government has taken actions to identify and acquire lands from Landscope, in consultation with the representatives of the socio-cultural associations. Tender exercises and contract signings are nearing completion.

The minister expressed regret that this issue was politicized “just to score cheap political points”, threatening social stability. He also lamented the rumors directed towards him.

Steve Obeegadoo reiterated that the relocation of entities out of the Réduit triangle is in line with a coherent land development project in this area, aimed at becoming an Educational and Medical Hub.

Overall, the government’s decision to withdraw lands from the four associations, offer relocation, and fund the construction of cultural centers is part of a larger plan to develop the Réduit triangle into a hub for education and healthcare. The minister emphasized that these actions are not politically motivated but are part of a strategic development plan for the region.
