The office of the Police Commissioner reiterates its request to devotees converging towards the sacred lake of Ganga Talao during the Maha Shivaratree festival not to interfere with the power lines of the Central Electricity Board.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 26, the police headquarters highlighted Section 41 (c) of the Electricity Act 2005, which states that anyone who interferes, removes, or destroys a power line will be liable to pay a fine not exceeding Rs 100,000 and may be sentenced to a prison term not exceeding 5 years.
The “kawars” must also be of “normal size” so as not to interfere with the high voltage lines.
It should be noted that last year, during the Maha Shivaratree celebrations, two pilgrims were electrocuted when their “kawar” touched an electrical cable.
