After these two days spent in Agalega, the two opposition parliamentarians, Adil Ameer Meea (MMM) and Eshan Juman (Ptr), Members of Parliament for the No 3 constituency, which includes the archipelago in question, are demanding transparency on the agreement concluded between Mauritius and India. “Make the report public!” they demand.

Eshan Juman also emphasizes that there is apparently no planning for the future of Agalega after the launch of these new infrastructures. “Will there be flights? Will it open to the world? Will people have the right to come there? Billions have been spent, but what will be done there? No plan. We want to know. The people of Agalega want to know,” says the Labour Party MP.

For his part, Adil Ameer Meea points out that these infrastructures can accommodate more than just civilian aircraft. He mentioned the needs of the inhabitants on several fronts, including education – with a shortage of teachers or subjects taught –, health, and housing. He also argued that in light of the meetings the MPs had with the Agalega community, “it is not difficult to address the grievances of the 300 residents of the archipelago.”

The two MPs also distributed school supplies to students at Medco College.
