The Member of Parliament for the Constituency No 16 (Vacoas/Floréal), Ashley Ittoo, was elected Chairperson of Committees of the parliament on Tuesday, March 26.
It was the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, who proposed his election to this position. No counter-proposal was made. Thus, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sooroojdev Phokeer, agreed to the election of the majority party’s member.
In a brief protocol statement, Ashley Ittoo thanked the Prime Minister for the trust placed in him, adding that he would fulfill his new responsibilities to the best of his abilities.
