Alexandre Duval, the son of PMSD leader Xavier-Luc Duval, reiterates excerpts from a previous speech by his father stating that the party “will not betray anyone.”

Reservations were expressed yesterday at the MMM BP, with leader Paul Bérenger seeming to want to delay things before making a decision.

The MSM is sharpening its weapons by activating its mobilization for the May 1st meeting.

Although there is no question of collaboration within the hemicycle with the resumption of the National Assembly’s work today, things are not going well politically when it comes to discussions for the conclusion of the PTr/MMM/PMSD alliance. This is particularly evident from the ranks of the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM) and the Parti Mauricien Social-Démocrate (PMSD) since the past weekend. Signs of nervousness have been evident since the announcement by the leader of the Labour Party, Navin Ramgoolam, at his Political Bureau last Wednesday of the revised and corrected formula of 1995, which is 35/17/8. In addition to signs within the PMSD ranks, the issue was raised during yesterday’s deliberations at the MMM BP.

Information gathered early last evening suggested that leaders of the MMM do not agree with the 17-ticket quota, as well as with the fact that Navin Ramgoolam may have tried to dictate the choice of candidates to Paul Bérenger. The sentiment that emerged since last night is that “PTr cannot decide on its own that there are good candidates.” Faced with questions and voices that were heard yesterday, MMM leader Paul Bérenger wanted to delay, saying that nothing had been finalized with Navin Ramgoolam regarding the tickets and that for now, he was leaving the door open for further discussions with PTr. He indicated that in-depth negotiations should take place so that a final decision could be made soon.

In the PMSD camp, signs of agitation are also apparent. Attention was focused over the weekend on a post by Alexandre Duval, the son of the opposition leader, who apparently wanted to share excerpts from a previous political speech by his father, specifically stating that “PMSD will not betray anyone.”

The PMSD, for its part, is not in favor of securing only 8 tickets within this alliance, it is indicated in XLD’s entourage, who was more focused on preparing Private Notice Questions for the day. XLD, according to his colleagues, is not willing to break the alliance, hoping to find common ground with PTr and MMM, a reasonable deal. However, the emphasis is on the fact that collaboration within Parliament and support among the three parties in the hemicycle remain in place until further notice.

At the PTr level, it is claimed that they are closely following the situation, especially the reactions provoked by the 35/17/8 distribution announced by the leader of the reds. “You have to conclude the deal. It’s good that the leader has indicated the direction things are going and how the work can start moving forward. In any alliance, there are sacrifices and concessions. Now MMM and PMSD leaders need to decide what they want to do,” said a member of the Labour Party’s high command, believing that a positive outcome can still be found between the three parties.

In the meantime, the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) of Pravind Jugnauth is sharpening its weapons in preparation for the May 1st meeting. A meeting of party leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, Ministers Gobin and Hurreeram as well as Ravi Yerrigadoo among others, with groups of 10 people from the 20 constituencies, was organized over the weekend at Sun Trust.

The survey has already started for the deployment of logistics, including buses to transport supporters to this crucial meeting towards the end of the term. Each of the 20 constituencies has been instructed to start mobilizing branches, and as soon as the religious calendar is finalized with the Eid-Ul-Fitr festival, an expanded central committee will be convened with the leader’s participation for the guidelines on the way forward. At this stage, the gathering place, which would probably be Vacoas, has not been officially communicated to the orange troops.
