Linion Moris (LM) has introduced at least five women who are part of his Shadow Cabinet and will be candidates in the upcoming general elections. In the meantime, they are working on proposals related to their assigned portfolios. Mirella Chauvin, former mayor of Beau Bassin/Rose Hill, will be responsible for the theme ‘Family, Democracy, and Social Security’. “It is a very important portfolio because the Mauritian family is going through difficult times at the moment with issues of drugs, violence, and the high cost of living,” she said at a press conference in Port Louis yesterday.
Dr. Neena Ramdenee has been tasked with focusing on the Health dossier. “Our goal is to increase the budget and stop wastage in this ministry,” she said. She also mentioned the e-Health project and demanded explanations from the government as to why a consortium that proposed Rs 300 million was not chosen while the one that proposed double that amount was awarded the contract.
Another future LM candidate is Dr. Sita Jeeneea, who will handle the ‘Entrepreneurship and SMEs’ dossier. She asserts that “SMEs are fundamental in reviving the economy in terms of finance and self-sufficiency.” Meanwhile, Danielle Police-Michel will handle the Reparation dossier (related to the legacy of slavery) and Ecology.
“There is a final step on the subject of reparations in terms of economics because descendants of slaves still suffer from the consequences of this crime against humanity,” she maintains. Finally, Padma Utchanah will handle the Culture dossier. “We will bring changes to the Culture sector, such as banning the conversion of the Pamplemousses garden into a cemetery for politicians. This place should remain a botanical garden,” she said.
Furthermore, Nando Bodha states that LM aims to establish “a team that will shape the destiny of the country. A new team to bring hope to Mauritians.” He mentioned that other candidates will be introduced in the coming weeks.
On the other hand, Dev Sunnasy explains that six political parties have joined forces under LM and since 2021, “we have been on the ground to defend the rights of Mauritians.” Taking the opportunity, he affirms that “the door is not closed to other political parties, especially extra-parliamentary ones, who wish to join LM.”
