The leader of Linion Moris, Nando Bodha, yesterday expressed the political party’s desire to bring about profound changes in the areas of Law and Order, security, and well-being in the country. During a party political meeting, he explained that Linion Moris is focusing on a restructuring of the functioning of State affairs, particularly with regard to the Ministry of the Interior.
“We need a police force that is motivated, competent, well-trained, and well-paid. There should be someone who is accountable to the Prime Minister, the country, the people, and who answers questions in Parliament. The police commissioners, the FCC, and all these institutions need to be efficient,” he emphasized. He declared that it is high time we put an end to the culture of institutions serving the Prime Minister or his political party.
On the political front, the former minister and general secretary of the MSM maintained that “Jugnauth needs to go, Ramgoolam is not a solution. When we talk about putting things in order, there are three elements, either drugs, fraud, and corruption, justice and truth. Institutions should be independent. I am hearing talks about alliances, tickets, positions, ministries. Where our problem lies has not been addressed because we want the people to have confidence in us.”
Nando Bodha added that “we need a constant political line, a straight line. We want to present an alternative for the country. Our political action is clear. An alliance that says it will govern in stability. It is clear that the Jugnauth regime needs to go, it has finished our country, it has ruined our country and its institutions.”
For his part, the other leader of Linion Moris, José Moirt, outlined the details of this new Ministry of the Interior on the party’s agenda. “It is a new ministry that LM wants to establish to bring about a renovation of the republic that will ensure greater democracy in our country,” he explained.
He believes that the biggest problem in the country currently remains insecurity. “The country is failing in terms of security, the mafia has infiltrated everywhere,” he denounced, citing the need for structural change. According to him, the country is at a crossroads and this system overhaul aims to bring about decentralization of the Prime Minister’s powers and modernize Mauritian society.
“The MSM has acted as corruption engineers. Today, there is a corruption economy that is the main obstacle to economic and social development in the country. Who hasn’t had to pay a bribe to benefit from a public service?” he asked. He indicated that a potential government led by Linion Moris would review the legal and financial framework of the country, as well as the functioning of several State bodies such as the Human Rights Commission, the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Independent Police Complaints Commission, among others.
