There are a total of 76 Parliamentary Questions on the agenda for the National Assembly on Tuesday. 17 of these will be directed to the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth. The Prime Minister will start the Prime Minister’s Question Time (PMQT) session with an interrogation from Chief Whip Kavi Doolub (MSM) regarding the Agalega Revisited dossier, particularly focusing on the new facilities inaugurated a few weeks ago in the archipelago, including the new jetty and the new airstrip.

The Prime Minister will elaborate on the significance of these new infrastructures in the development plan of the Republic. Other questions listed for this segment, such as Nando Bodha’s inquiry on Air Mauritius’ aircraft fleet, Patrick Assirvaden’s query on the frequent flight cancellations of the national airline, or the accident involving a truck that resulted in the collapse of the pedestrian bridge in Roche-Bois by Joanne Tour (MSM), do not seem likely to receive answers from the Leader of the House during this session.

During the questioning of ministers, the Minister of Finance, Renganaden Padayachy, will be highly sought after with a total of six questions directed at him alone. Rajesh Bhagwan (MMM) will raise concerns regarding the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). He will try to ascertain from the Grand Argentier whether the GRA has approved the Stakes Money scale for the 2024 horse racing season, the number of registered stables to date, whether Due Diligence has been carried out concerning the owners or shareholders participating in the races.

The Secretary-General of the Mauves and his colleague Franco Quirin (MMM) will also address Minister Padayachy regarding the establishment of the Petit-Gamin equestrian center on behalf of gambling magnate Jean-Michel Lee Shim, seeking to know if a operating permit has been issued by the GRA to Global Equestrian Ltd. Nando Bodha will seek details from the Finance Minister on cigarettes, including the quantity imported from January 2023 to date, the amount paid, the country of origin, and the amount of taxes collected.

Aadil Ameer Meea (MMM) will seek clarifications from Renganaden Padayachy on public debt, specifically the amount reached in December 2023, indicating the amounts in Mauritian rupees as well as foreign currencies, the ratio to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and the measures that will be taken to reduce the debt burden.

The Minister of Health, Kailesh Jagutpal, will also be in high demand on Tuesday. Backbencher Ashley Ittoo (MSM) will want to know the progress made in the realization of the eHealth project and the disbursements made by the State so far. Fabrice David (PTr) will also have questions on this project, wanting precise details from the Minister regarding the tender exercises that took place, the name of the company that won the contract, and the cost of implementing this eHealth System.

Buisson Léopold (OPR) will be interested in the situation of the dengue epidemic in Rodrigues and the deaths recorded following this contamination over the past two years, while Karen Foo Kune-Bacha (MMM) and Ranjv Woochit (PTr) will demand information on the situation in Mauritius. Farhad Aumeer (PTr) will want to know if Drs Catherine Gaud and Laxmi Taukoor are affiliated with the Harm Reduction Unit, the responsibilities assigned to them, and whether they are both accredited as specialists in psychiatry or addictionology by the Medical Council.

Additionally, Aadil Ameer Meea will seek information from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Government, Anwar Husnoo, on the latest developments regarding the demolition project of the Kentucky Fried Chicken premises and the parking facilities built on the Le-Pouce creek, following the recommendation of the 2014 judicial inquiry.
