The Sir Gaëtan Duval Hotel School (EHSGD) of the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) organized a Job Fair on its campus in Ebene on March 6th, aiming to provide a platform for hoteliers, tour operators, and airlines to meet young people and offer employment opportunities. It was a successful comeback for EHSGD, as it attracted a large number of visitors despite the Maha Shivaratree festivities.
The annual Job Fair of EHSGD at MITD made a big comeback, nearly eight years after the last edition. The event was open to MITD trainees in hospitality, tourism, leisure, and engineering, as well as the general public and students from other institutions like the University of Mauritius, the University of Technology of Mauritius, Charles Telfair Institute, and Vatel. The goal was to create synergy between different players in the tourism and hospitality sector, while providing young people with valuable opportunities to explore career options and build professional connections.
“The tourism industry is a sector with almost full employment. However, it struggles to recruit because young people seem less interested in it. The goal of this Job Fair was mainly to motivate them to consider and engage in this dynamic and constantly evolving industry,” said Krishan Ramjutton, Assistant Manager of EHSGD. And the success was evident.
For the 2024 edition, the fair welcomed over thirty recruiters offering numerous positions in various fields, such as server, chef, head waiter, housekeeper, communication officer, reservation agent, animator, receptionists, and spa staff. Among the industry professionals present were ‘Attitude Group of Hotels, Marriott Mauritius Hotels, Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa, The Oberoi Beach Resort, Ocean’s Creek Beach Hotel, Salt Hospitality LTD, Beau Vallon Hospitality, Club Med, Constance Hotels, Evaco Group, LUX* Group of Hotels, Ninety-Six Hotel Collection, 20° Sud Hotel, Le Domaine de Grand Baie Ltd, Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa, La Maison D’été, and Qatar Airways, to name a few.
Recruiters implemented remarkable initiatives to attract candidates by offering attractive, flexible positions with benefits such as flexible hours, attractive bonuses, competitive salaries, and favorable leave policies. The goal was to offer favorable and tailored working conditions for future employees. The outcome was successful: young people from various institutions, including MITD, left the Job Fair with smiles on their faces, just like the companies present.
