The Ministry of Health is currently holding a press conference regarding the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship, which is in Mauritian waters and is prohibited from accessing Mauritius following the detection of around fifteen sick individuals on board.
“No cases of cholera detected on the Norwegian Dawn. The results of analysis of samples taken from passengers are negative.” Dr. Booshan Ori, the Director of Health Services, stated that no other health issues have been detected on the cruise ship. “The Norwegian Dawn should be able to dock in the coming hours.”
Mr. Labonne from the Ministry of Tourism indicated that since 4 am on Saturday, an evaluation of the situation has been carried out with the Health Department. He mentioned a close collaboration between the Ministries of Health and Tourism, as well as the Mauritius Port Authority (MPA).
They explained that 2200 passengers and crew members, who were waiting to board, were welcomed at the port on Sunday. With the lifting of the docking ban, they will also need to accommodate the passengers who were placed in isolation on the ship.
