The Secretariat of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) celebrated its 27th anniversary with an open fair at the Tribeca Mall in Mauritius on Saturday. This celebration, commemorating IORA Day, brought together ten member states and five dialogue partners in a vibrant showcase of cultural heritage.
On this occasion, President Pradeep Roopun emphasized that “IORA’s role remains to promote regional enterprise, peace, stability, and sustainable development in the Indian Ocean region and beyond. I am pleased to be part of this commendable initiative where we will showcase the rich cultural diversity of IORA members, but this platform will also serve for greater understanding, friendship, and cooperation among several nations.”
Salman Al Farisi, Secretary-General of IORA, also addressed the audience. He said, “Today is a day to celebrate the richness of our cultures, a tapestry woven with threads of traditions, languages, and stories that make each of our nations unique.”
According to the Secretary-General of IORA, a cultural and culinary salon was organized to honor this diversity, while also showcasing the vibrant Indian Ocean region.
“As part of this cultural partnership, I express my sincere thanks to the member states and dialogue partners for their participation and contribution to this event. Today, our partnerships extend beyond diplomatic dialogues and into the realms of art, cuisine, and shared experiences, creating a fabric of unity,” said Salman Al Farisi.
The IORA open fair served as a platform for cultural exchange, offering the public an immersive experience in the rich diversity of the 10 member states and 5 dialogue partners. The highlights of the event included a culinary journey through various cuisines, captivating cultural performances featuring music and traditional dances, as well as an art and craft exhibition showcasing creations from IORA member states and dialogue partners.
