Tropical storm Eleanor forced Air Mauritius to take immediate action to clearly demonstrate that lessons learned from the Belal experience were taken into account. The national airline announced significant adjustments to its flight schedule, issuing bulletins 4 and 5 yesterday at 4:00 pm and 6:45 pm, respectively. These announcements detail canceled, rescheduled, and on-time flights. Updates are ongoing and must therefore be checked on the Air Mauritius website.
Following the lifting of cyclone warnings and the reopening of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport yesterday afternoon, Air Mauritius communicated major changes in its flight schedule.
The two bulletins confirmed that four flights departing from Mauritius to Paris, Réunion, Johannesburg, and Geneva, as well as the return flights, were on time. However, flights to London, Kuala Lumpur, and their return were rescheduled. Flights to Mumbai, Réunion (three flights), and Madagascar, on the other hand, were canceled.
Additionally, passengers on flight MK 440 on February 22 to Perth were transferred to the flight MK 440 on February 24. Passengers on flight MK 748 on February 22 to Mumbai were rescheduled on alternative flights. Passengers of the canceled flights MK 218/228/238 on the 22nd were transferred to flight MK 218 on February 23 to Réunion.
In its bulletin No. 5, issued at 6:45 pm after the cyclone alert was lifted in Mauritius, Air Mauritius announced that flights MK 014 on the 22nd to Paris CDG, MK 248 (February 22) to Réunion, MK 851 (February 23) to Johannesburg, and MK 048 (February 23) to Geneva and their return would take place at the originally scheduled times.
On the other hand, flight MK 042 on the 22nd to London Gatwick was rescheduled to flight MK 4042 on the 23rd with a departure at 09:50. Similarly, flight MK 646 (February 22) to Kuala Lumpur was rescheduled to the 23rd at 01:00.
Flights MK 748 (February 22) to Mumbai, MK 228 (February 22), and finally MK 288 (February 22) to Antananarivo were rescheduled on alternative flights. Passengers of flights MK 218/228/238 (February 22, 2024) to Réunion were transferred to today’s flight MK 218.
