“Serterman has a job of consciousness. We call for more restraint and responsibility,” said Bobby Hurreram at a press conference this Saturday, commenting on the tragedy that occurred during the Maha Shivratree pilgrimage in Arsenal, which resulted in six deaths and around twenty injuries.
The minister emphasized that there are rules and laws in place for the pilgrimage, and information has been communicated by socio-cultural organizations to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
“We wish to work in consensus with the socio-cultural organizations for the safety of the pilgrims,” he said, emphasizing that this is not about playing the blame game.
The Minister of Arts, Avinash Teeluck, also reflected on the celebrations of the 56th anniversary of independence.
“I call on Mauritians to come and celebrate with family and embrace our Mauritian identity,” he announced. He also mentioned that a discount will be offered on metro and bus tickets during the scheduled event hours.
Transport will be free for children under 13, and buses will be available for Mauritians in certain areas.
Overall, the government is emphasizing the importance of safety and unity during these events, encouraging people to celebrate responsibly and come together as a nation. They are working closely with socio-cultural organizations to ensure that future pilgrimages and celebrations are conducted smoothly and safely for all participants.
