A total of 494 active cases of dengue have been recorded in the country, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health.
In Rodrigues, a total of 361 active cases are reported.
It is worth noting that two deaths related to the virus have been reported to date. It should be recalled that the first case of dengue was recorded on December 11th. Since then, a total of 1787 cases have been recorded in Mauritius and 637 cases in Rodrigues.
Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by a bite from infected mosquitoes (Aedes/tiger mosquitoes) to humans.
The symptoms of dengue fever include, but are not limited to:
– High fever
– Headaches
– Body aches
– Nausea
– Skin rashes
Those experiencing the above symptoms are advised to visit the nearest health center to their residence.
To protect against dengue, which is transmitted by mosquitoes, the Ministry advises the public to take the following precautions:
– Wear long-sleeved clothing covering the arms and legs.
– Use mosquito nets.
– Use mosquito repellent products (cream, lotion, spray, coil, electric diffuser).
– Drain stagnant water on house rooftops.
– Ensure that water pipes and gutters are not blocked.
– Properly cover water tanks so that mosquitoes do not have access.
– Dispose of any objects that could hold water in the outdoor environment (used tires, cans, household waste).
– Change the water in flower vases at least once a week.
– Clear and clean unused land regularly.
– Ensure there is no water retention in saucers under flower pots.
– Regularly remove dead leaves from your yard.
