In the locality known as “Quartier” in Mahebourg, water distribution will now be 24/7, reaffirmed Bobby Hurreeram.

The Minister of Public Infrastructure was on site for a ‘site visit’ to mark the completion of phase 1 of the pipeline replacement project in the region, at a cost of over Rs 300 million.

Minister Hurreeram recalled that due to the aging pipelines in the “Quartier” region, known to be a ‘water stressed’ area, residents mainly relied on the service of mobile tankers provided by the Central Water Authority (CWA) for their daily supply of drinking water.

The pipe laying works over three kilometers began in mid-December. Furthermore, phase 2 of the project will start on the main road of Mahébourg and Ville Noire. The main objective of extending the water pipe replacement project nationwide, he added, is to improve the quality of water supply and the lives of Mauritians.

Ramprakash Maunthrooa, General Manager of the CWA, stated that 25 kilometers of pipes will be replaced in Mahebourg and the surrounding areas, highlighting that in Blue-Bay, 5 kilometers of pipes covering approximately 7,500 residential and commercial spaces have already been replaced. Once the project is completed, there will be no water leaks for 60 to 75 years, ensuring the continuity of water supply to a larger number of households, he explained.
