Padma Utchanah (48 years old), a member of Linion Pep Morisien (LPM), reported a sympathizer of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) to the police for his vulgar behavior and verbal violence. She stated that last Sunday, she was with other party members at the Rivière-du-Rempart fair distributing pamphlets in the parking lot.
Rama Valayden, Dev Sunnassy, and Nando Bodha were canvassing for the upcoming general elections. However, at one point, a group of men and women gathered to make their voices heard. A certain Souboul, wearing an orange t-shirt and identifying himself as a supporter of the MSM, was excited by the presence of LPM members on the ground.
According to the complainant, this resident of Roches Noires had unpleasant behavior towards her and the LPM members. This man allegedly shouted, “ale ale ale, don’t come convince these people. Pravind Jugnauth himself is our husband. Go away, leave, you don’t have the right to come persuade people. Is this democracy? Go away, you have no right to come persuade people for the MSM, that’s our husband.”
It was market gardeners and customers who intervened to restore calm while waiting for the police to arrive. The LPM members, undeterred by this incident, continued distributing pamphlets and campaigning on the ground.
Padma Utchanah mentioned lodging a Pre-Measure (PM) for further actions in the future. This incident will be discussed with the LPM leaders who will then decide on the next steps. Even though it is a PM, the police have still initiated an investigation.
