“Powerful and influential friends… can help him get any licenses required,” writes Gajanand Veeruppa, the one who has decided to take legal action to recover the Rs 5 million he placed in a company owned by Parwez Nunnoo, the protege of Alan Ganoo who is already positioning himself as the Militant Unity candidate in constituency No. 13 instead of Ismael Rawoo.
It is a document that is shared among insiders and summarized in two letters: Golar Token, a company that was supposed to thrive in cryptocurrency and whose fate is still very uncertain, to say the least. It is a claim by an Anglo-Mauritian who feels he was deceived by the political nominee of the Minister of Transport, Alan Ganoo, to the presidency of the Taxi Proprietor’s Welfare Fund.
Those who have had the chance to peruse the document, which dates back to November 2023, have been truly impressed by the wealth of details it contains about the personal and professional activities of Parwez Nunnoo, who has become, according to close associates of the Ganoo/Obeegadoo/Diolle movement, a major facilitator in constituencies 13, 14, 17, and 18.
The meetings in the courtyard of the Curepipe municipality, the tête-à-tête at Paul’s in So’Flo, Parwez Nunnoo’s properties on Antelme Street in Curepipe or Berthaud in Floréal, his WhatsApp group shared with Osman Badat and Benito Elisa – a former Bramer Bank consultant turned advisor to Minister Roshi Bhadain and currently CEO of Wakanda 4.0 and organizer of the 3rd Cryptoverse Summit – his white BMW, his connections in Tanzania, almost everything is laid out.
What caught the attention of readers in this documentation is the explicit claim of his close ties to power: “Parwez also mentioned that, due to him being the chairman of Taxi Operators Welfare Fund, he has powerful and influential friends in the Ministry of Land Transport and Light Rail of Mauritius. His contacts can help get him any licenses required to start his Golar Token business in the country.”
According to reports from those who have scrutinized this document closely, Gajanand Veeruppa is determined to recover the Rs 5 million he transferred from the Natwest Bank in London to Parwez Nunnoo’s company Al Zahab account at Maubank since April 2022, especially as he does not know what has become of this sum even though he was promised a 14.5% return on investment.
As Parwez Nunnoo is a PEP, “politically exposed person,” maneuvers are underway to avoid a bigger scandal than what has already been shared behind the scenes. The date of May 7 is mentioned as the deadline for a resolution in this matter, with the whistleblower considering with his lawyer the possibility of withdrawing his accusations in the event of an immediate recovery of his risky investment in Golar Token. What is certain is that this kind of incident speaks volumes about the pedigree of those aspiring to parliament. Perhaps, this is also what “politics differently” means.
