The red BP of Wednesday noted a growing discomfort gnawing at No. 2 with a difficult cohabitation between Osman Mahomed and Farhad Aumeer.
The Political Bureau of the Labour Party (PTr), which met on Wednesday afternoon, reviewed the latest developments on the political scene with the general elections looming in the background. The party leader, Navin Ramgoolam, gave his top brass indications regarding the negotiations between him and the leaders of the Militant Movement of Mauritius (MMM) Paul Bérenger and that of the Mauritian Social Democratic Party (PMSD) Xavier-Luc Duval.
Information gathered by Le Mauricien in the relevant circles indicates that the former Prime Minister reported on the distribution of tickets agreed upon at this stage within the PTr/MMM/PMSD alliance for the upcoming general elections to be held by next September, with a split of 35-17-8.
The Labour leader added that the three political parties are progressing in terms of the strategy to deploy in the coming weeks to regain ground in the political arena. “We need to mobilize, we need to work,” he suggested, emphasizing that those who will not be in the running for candidacies must understand the importance of sacrifices to remove the Militant Socialist Movement of Pravind Jugnauth from power through the ballot box. He appealed to the common sense of Labour Party members and stressed that the party needs everyone’s help to defeat political opponents.
The list of candidates under the PTr/MMM/PMSD banner, according to Navin Ramgoolam, is on track, being at the center of discussions between the three leaders. Navin Ramgoolam also indicated that all opposition MPs will once again run for the universal suffrage.
Furthermore, the Labour Party also set up a committee to examine the party’s upcoming activities on the ground as well as the preparation for the May 1st meeting, with the PTr/MMM/PMSD alliance parties calling on their supporters in Port Louis.
The red BP also discussed the upcoming parliamentary session scheduled for next Tuesday. The red parliamentarians do not intend to give any gifts to the MSM government in the chamber, especially in these last months of its term. PTr MPs plan to shine a spotlight on scandals that have occurred since last December and highlight controversial situations in the management of the country’s affairs, especially in terms of lucrative contracts awarded to close associates of the power or extravagant spending.
This instance of the Labour Party also noted a growing discomfort between the two PTr elected officials in the Port Louis-South/Port Louis-Central constituency (No. 2), namely between Osman Mahomed and Farhad Aumeer. In fact, the former was absent from the BP deliberations on Wednesday and, according to some informed reds, has been increasingly absent from the party’s political activities for some time now, having recently traveled abroad.
The party leaders were informed that the two elected officials no longer seem able to coexist in this constituency, causing friction among agents on the ground. Navin Ramgoolam apparently did not want to hear Farhad Aumeer’s explanations in the absence of Osman Mahomed, believing that it would be ideal for him to have frank discussions with both. The PTR leader intended to have a private conversation to find a solution to this delicate situation. Stay tuned…
