The appointment of Charles Cartier as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was approved by the board of directors of Air Mauritius yesterday. “We must ensure that customer experience is our priority. Air Mauritius travelers are tourists to Mauritius, an important part of the economy. It is essential that all passengers on our planes become fans of the destination,” said Charles Cartier in a brief press conference yesterday.

He emphasized the importance of Air Mauritius’ strategic positioning and the need for the company to consider its fleet, partnerships, among other factors. “We know that there have been bad experiences, delays, and breakdowns in the background. We need to address and resolve these issues for the customers,” he pointed out.

He announced that he plans to set up forums to meet with the company’s employees. He indicated that he intends to engage with various departments to develop a strategy for his priority areas.

Prior to yesterday’s meeting, the board of directors of Airport Holdings Ltd (AHL) also met to acknowledge the resignation of its CEO, Ken Arian, as a Board Director of MK. It was decided that AHL would be represented on the national airline’s board by the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office (External Communications Division) Kantabye Babajee. The airline’s board thus welcomes two new faces.

When asked to comment on the departure of Top Chef Arian, Charles Cartier did not want to get involved, while MK Chairman Marday Venketasamy indicated that no reason was given in the resignation letter submitted to the Board.

“It has been some time since we had a director at Air Mauritius and it was urgent to appoint a new director. This has now been done. Charles Cartier has been appointed CEO of the company with immediate effect. He is the best person to hold this position,” said Air Mauritius board chairman Marday Venketasamy.

He explained that Charles Cartier has extensive professional experience in managing international companies, having been the director of Accenture (Mauritius) for many years. He also has experience in the public service, having served as the first chairman of the Economic Development Board. He is currently the president of OTAM, president of the Central Statistics Office, and a board member of the Bank of Mauritius.
