Several citizens demonstrated in the capital this Thursday morning in front of the Saint-Louis Cathedral. Among them are Arnaud Poulay and his brother Franco. The two agree that this new runway does not bode well.

“This is a project in their interest and not in the interest of the island’s inhabitants,” said Arnaud Poulay. Holding signs, he denounced the lingering uncertainties.

“In these sectors, no Agalean has been trained to work in them,” he says. He adds that there were other priorities that needed to be addressed. “The education sector and the health sector should have been considered first.”

“We are not respected as citizens,” Arnaud Poulay suggests. He continues: “For me, it is a people who are crying in the wilderness. It is another wound that has opened today.”

He hopes that Mauritians and Rodriguans will be allowed to visit the island in the days to come.

Several citizens protested in the capital city this Thursday morning in front of the Saint-Louis Cathedral. Among them were Arnaud Poulay and his brother Franco. The two Agaleans agree that this new airstrip project does not indicate anything positive.

“This is a project in their own interest and not in the interest of the island’s inhabitants,” Arnaud Poulay said. Holding banners, he criticized the persisting ambiguities.

“In these sectors, no Agalean has been trained to work in them,” he affirmed. He further mentioned that there were other priorities that should have been addressed first. “The education sector and the health sector should have been given priority.”

“We are not being respected as citizens,” Arnaud Poulay implied. He elaborated: “For me, it is a people crying in the wilderness. It is another wound that has been opened from today onwards.”

He expressed his hope that both Mauritians and Rodriguans would be allowed to visit the island in the upcoming days.
