Apart from the runway and jetty inaugurated on Thursday morning, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth proceeded with other inaugurations, including the Village 25 community center and the North library, on the North island of Agalega, aiming to promote social engagement, local talents, and reading. He attended a cultural program that included an exhibition hosted at the community center. The Agaleans had the opportunity to showcase their culinary and artisanal talents.

The key ingredient in Agalean cuisine is coconut. Seraz, the traditional food unique to Agalega, is a rich stew of fish, octopus, and lentils in coconut milk. Other fish dishes are also among the culinary specialties of the island. As for artisanal objects, they are made from coconuts, old clothes, broken umbrellas, bottles found on the beach, and seashells. Recently, the residents of Agalega, particularly the women of the Fam Agalega association, received training from a MEDCO Agalega teacher to enhance their artisanal skills.

The Indian High Commissioner, Nandini Singla, handed over books in English and French to the Acting Resident Manager, Emmanuel Jasmin, adding to the 500 books provided by the Center for Reading and Cultural Animation. Furthermore, the library is equipped with four computers and Wi-Fi connection.

The series of inaugurations continued yesterday morning, with the Prime Minister inaugurating an administrative block, the multipurpose center Sainte Rita. He also visited the South island. A commemorative plaque was jointly unveiled by Pravind Jugnauth and Nandini Singla. This infrastructure project will house an administrative office, a store, and a community center, benefiting the Agaleans, especially the residents of the South island.

At the end of the ceremony, Assistant Resident Manager Steeve Clarisse invited the ministerial delegation to visit a memorial as well as historical sites on the South island, including the Sainte Rita church, the wreck of the steamship Wajao, and an old mill.
