Marking five years since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic

On March 11 2020 the World Health Organisation declared that the coronavirus crisis was now a global pandemic. The WHO estimates that nearly 15 million people were killed either by the new coronavirus or by its impact on overwhelmed health systems during the first two years of the pandemic. We reflect on the first year of the pandemic that came to be know as COVID-19.
