March 17 elections: Russians in Burkina vote ahead of time (Updated)
Ouagadougou, March 10, 2024 (Africa Links 24) – Russian citizens living in Burkina Faso voted ahead of time on Sunday for the election of the future president of the Russian Federation, scheduled for March 17, 2024, as observed by an Africa Links 24 journalist.
The Honorary Consul General of the Russian Federation in Burkina, Anna Coulibaly, was pleased that the vote took place within the embassy.
“It is very important for the entire Russian community and it is something we have been waiting for a long time,” said Mrs. Coulibaly.
For embassy employee Asiya Kalitova, holding the presidential election within the embassy is an important step from a political point of view.
“I was able to vote. I am proud to be a citizen of a country that participates in important events in the world,” she rejoiced.
Her wish is to have a strong leader who can lead Russia towards a bright future.
This is the first time that Russian citizens in Burkina have voted since the reopening of the Russian embassy in Burkina in December 2023.
The favorite and incumbent president Vladimir Putin and three other candidates are in the running for the election.
