Manchester United recently had a conversation with Alejandro Garnacho after the young winger showed support for social media posts criticizing manager Erik ten Hag’s handling of him. Garnacho liked two posts on X by United fan and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge. One post accused Ten Hag of throwing Garnacho under the bus based on comments made about the player’s performance, while the other criticized the decision to substitute Garnacho at half-time and blame him for the team’s issues.
Garnacho quickly unliked both posts, showing a sense of regret, which the club viewed as a sign of contrition. According to a United source, the matter was addressed internally. Despite the incident, Garnacho has been a key player for United this season, contributing nine goals and four assists in 42 appearances.
This incident isn’t the first time a player has publicly expressed discontent with Ten Hag’s decisions. In September, Jadon Sancho spoke out on X, claiming he had been made a scapegoat for being left out of the squad against Arsenal due to poor training performances as stated by Ten Hag. Sancho disputed these claims and was eventually sidelined from the first team before being loaned to Borussia Dortmund in January.
Following the draw against Bournemouth, where Garnacho was substituted at half-time, Ten Hag’s position as manager has faced increased scrutiny. United currently sits in seventh place in the Premier League, 13 points adrift of the top four. The FA Cup remains their only chance of silverware this season, with a semi-final match against Coventry scheduled for Sunday at Wembley.
Overall, the situation with Garnacho’s social media activity has been addressed by the club internally, and the focus now shifts to on-pitch performances as United aim to salvage their season with a successful FA Cup campaign. The differing opinions expressed by players and management highlight potential tensions within the squad that need to be resolved for the team to achieve its goals moving forward.
