The laying of the wreath of flowers by the Minister of Health and Social Development, Colonel Assa Badiallo Touré
Bamako, March 22 (AMAP) The Association for the Defense of Victims of Repression (ADVR) organized a funeral march on Friday to commemorate the martyrs of the Malian revolution on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the “Black Friday.”
Thirty-three years ago, (March 22, 1991 – March 22, 2024) hundreds of young people, in the prime of their lives, shed their blood, even their lives, for the advent of democracy and multi-partyism in Mali.
The commemoration, which took place at the Martyrs Square near the Niarela cemetery, was held in an atmosphere of contemplation and emotion, well supervised by the police. The pioneers led the march holding a banner with a black background. It read: “Homage to the Martyrs.”
After the laying of the wreath of flowers by the Minister of Health and Social Development, Colonel Assa Badiallo Touré, the bugle call followed. Then, the participants observed a minute of silence.
Colonel Assa Badiallo Touré in the presence of former ministers and several important figures of the Democratic Movement including Mrs. Sy Kadiatou Sow, Prof. Aly Nouhoum Diallo, Tiébilé Dramé, Yaya Sangaré, said that these victims deserve the respect and consideration of the entire nation. According to the Minister in charge of Health, these “Martyrs of the Nation were and remain in the heart and mind of the Malian people.”
The president of the ADVR, Abdoulaye Dembélé, paid tribute “to these heroes, martyrs, and children who fell on the field of honor, in the name of the homeland.” Mr. Dembélé stated that the ADVR is committed to contributing, in accordance with the aspirations of our authorities and all the living forces, to building a new nation, “a Mali Kura,” whose essential foundation is forgiveness, justice, and tolerance.”
