Bamako, April 11 (AMAP) The High Authority of Communication (HAC) has called on Malian media to stop broadcasting and publishing activities of political parties and politically oriented associations, in accordance with their suspension by the government on Wednesday.

“Following the adoption of decree n°2024-0230/PT-RM of April 10, 2024 suspending the activities of political parties and politically oriented activities of associations, the High Authority of Communication (HAC) ‘invites all media (radio, TV, print and online newspapers) to stop all broadcasting and publication of activities of political parties and politically oriented activities of associations’,” said a press release from the regulatory body published on Thursday, April 11.

This call from the Communication Regulatory Authority in Mali comes less than 24 hours after the announcement of the suspension of political parties and politically oriented associations, in order to “preserve the general interest,” according to the government.

The Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, spokesperson for the government, Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga, during a press conference, argued that “it is an impersonal measure that does not target any political party.”

Colonel Abdoulaye Maïga stated that it is “more precisely to maintain a climate of serenity for the holding of the Inter-Malian Dialogue for peace and national reconciliation.”
