Sikasso, April 2nd (AMAP) The regional road safety forum brought together several hundred participants from March 27th to 30th in the capital of Kénédougou, composed of public authorities, road safety actors, political authorities, socio-professional interests, members of civil society and opinion leaders, as observed by AMAP.

The purpose of this forum, organized by the regional branch of the National Road Safety Agency (ANASER), is to identify the real concerns of the road safety actors, gather and address the sensitivities of the geographical area, and strengthen the coordination of actions to combat road insecurity.

The increase in human and interurban mobility resulting from increased motorization and population growth leads to an increase in risks related to road use. This risk is accentuated by the widespread use of motorized two or three-wheeled vehicles. The average annual road accident statistics of the last five years reveal that one person is killed every 14 hours, with the human factor being the most involved in accidents.

Addressing the participants, the head of the Sikasso branch of ANASER, Ibrahima Sidibé, stated that this forum is dedicated to the training and awareness of 200 road users and actors from security forces and socio-professional organizations.

According to him, the choice of these targets is explained by the predominance of the human factor in road accidents. According to him, the objective of this forum in the short and medium term is to promote road safety on the entire regional road network and contribute to the optimal and safe use of roads open to public traffic. It also represents a response to the series of fatal accidents recorded in our region.

Mr. Sidibé also specified that the activities of this forum are part of the implementation of the actions of the national road safety strategy 2021 – 2030 and its action plan 2021-2025.

For Mrs. Kanté Marie Claire Dembélé, Governor of the Sikasso region, this forum represents an opportunity to bring together key actors from the public and private sectors and civil society to share ideas on best practices and consider innovative solutions to improve road safety in our region.

According to the regional executive chief, together we can work to raise awareness, educate, and proactively act to reduce accidents and save lives.

Mrs. the Governor also noted that by investing in safe roads, strengthening the capacity of our law enforcement forces, and promoting a culture of respect for road rules, we can create an environment that ensures everyone’s safety on our roads.

During the forum launching ceremony, the participants watched a documentary on road accident victims.

The symbolic handover of equipment and first aid supplies to the regional police director, the commander of the 4th Gendarmerie region, the regional director of the Civil Protection, and the director of the Sikasso hospital marked the end of the launch ceremony of the Sikasso regional forum.
