In an effort to strengthen the relationship between the police and the people of M’baluku (also known as Soweto) in the area of Group Village Head Ntagaluka, Traditional Authority (TA) Chowe in Mangochi, law enforcers engaged communities in the area on the importance of practicing politics of tolerance.
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) had postponed the by-election for Mwansa Ward in the area for two consecutive times last year due to pre-electoral irregularities. Assistant Commissioner Morgan Dzonzi, the Officer In-Charge for Mangochi Police Station, emphasized the need for a positive mindset among people to promote a working relationship and advance tolerance.
Mangochi Police is determined to create a safe environment in M’baluku to encourage MEC to reconsider conducting the by-elections. Dzonzi highlighted the failures of MEC to conduct the by-election in Mwansa Ward due to lack of tolerance, and the importance of the community and police working together to achieve a violence-free environment for citizens to exercise their right to vote.
Group Village Head Ntagaluka expressed his appreciation for Mangochi Police’s efforts to build a good relationship with his community members. He pledged continued collaboration with law enforcement to reduce crime in the area, emphasizing that the strong relationship would help address past challenges.
