A notorious criminal met his demise at the hands of the police in Mangochi after he wounded an officer while resisting arrest at Makawa Trading Centre early this morning. The criminal, identified as Allen M’bwana, had a history of criminal activities and was wanted by the police in Mangochi and Liwonde for a series of break-ins in the area.

Amina Tepani Daudi, the spokesperson for Mangochi District Police Station, confirmed the incident and provided details of M’bwana’s criminal background. The police had received a tip from community members about M’bwana’s whereabouts, leading to a raid on his house by officers from Makokola Police. When M’bwana opened the door, he immediately threw a homemade iron spear at the officers, injuring one of them on the right arm. Despite the injury, the officer managed to shoot in the air as a warning, but a stray bullet hit M’bwana in the leg, causing him to collapse.

Both the injured officer and M’bwana were rushed to Mangochi District Hospital for medical attention. Sadly, M’bwana succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss, while the officer is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The deceased, rumored to be from Ngokwe in Machinga, had his body taken to the Mangochi District Hospital mortuary.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face in dealing with criminals who pose a threat to the safety and security of the community. Despite efforts to apprehend M’bwana peacefully, his violent resistance resulted in a tragic outcome for both himself and the officer involved. The loss of life is always a somber event, and it underscores the importance of cooperation between the public and law enforcement in addressing criminal activities in the region.

The police officers involved in the operation acted in self-defense to protect themselves and ensure the safety of others in the area. While the outcome was unfortunate, it highlights the risks and challenges faced by law enforcement personnel in the line of duty. The community’s support in providing information to the police played a crucial role in apprehending M’bwana and preventing further criminal activities in the region.

As the investigation into the incident continues, authorities will work to gather more information about M’bwana’s criminal activities and any potential accomplices. The loss of life, no matter the circumstances, is a tragedy that affects families, communities, and law enforcement agencies. It is a reminder of the importance of maintaining law and order to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents in Mangochi and beyond.
