The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in Malawi is urging prospective students to apply for selection into six public universities. The application process for this year, like last year, is strictly online, and students are advised to apply through the portal on the NCHE website (pus.nche.ac.mw).

Priscilla Zikapanda, the council’s spokesperson, emphasized that prospective students who are facing challenges with the online portal should reach out to teachers in their respective Secondary Schools for assistance. Zikapanda mentioned that teachers have been oriented across Malawi and are ready to help candidates throughout the application process.

Parents and guardians are also encouraged to motivate their wards to apply and take the opportunity to be selected to continue their studies at any of the country’s six public universities.

In a separate interview, Daniel Chibwana, an education commentator in Malawi, commended NCHE for ensuring that many qualified candidates have the chance to be selected into Public Universities. However, he made an emotional appeal to the government to review the tertiary education fees in public universities, which he believes are too high for some parents to afford, leading to discouragement.

NCHE’s main objective is to ensure that the public has access to quality and relevant higher education in Malawi. Their efforts are focused on making the application process smoother for prospective students and ensuring that qualified individuals have the opportunity to further their education at the country’s public universities.

With the support of teachers and the encouragement of parents and guardians, NCHE aims to increase the number of qualified candidates who successfully apply and get selected into the public universities. The council’s dedication to providing accessible and quality higher education in Malawi is paramount, and they continue to work towards achieving this goal.

In conclusion, NCHE’s call for prospective students to apply for selection into public universities is a step towards realizing the importance of higher education in Malawi. By addressing the challenges students may face during the application process and advocating for more affordable tertiary education fees, NCHE is striving to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for students seeking higher education opportunities in the country.
