NBS Bank Plc has decided to double this year’s Charity Shield football sponsorship package from K20 million to K40 million, as announced by the Bank’s CEO, Kwanele Ngwenya at a press briefing. The decision to increase the sponsorship amount was driven by the success and impact of the tournament since NBS Bank Plc started sponsoring it in 2022.
Ngwenya expressed the Bank’s commitment to supporting education, which he referred to as the bedrock of sustainable development and the cornerstone of Malawi’s vision. He emphasized that the NBS Bank Charity Shield is more than just a competition, it symbolizes shared values, hopes for a brighter future, and a commitment to the holistic development of Malawi. The CEO highlighted the transformative potential of sports and education combined and the power of partnership and community investment.
Moreover, Ngwenya announced that NBS Bank Plc will sponsor the Charity Shield for the next three years, with the proceeds from this year’s event being allocated to the construction of sanitary facilities in selected schools in the Central Region. This initiative aims to improve the learning environment and support the well-being of students in those schools.
Alfred Gunda, General Secretary of the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), expressed gratitude to NBS Bank Plc for increasing the sponsorship amount to K40 million. He highlighted the importance of football in providing employment opportunities to various individuals involved in the sport, such as players, coaches, and referees. Gunda also commended the Bank for committing to sponsor the Charity Shield for the next three years, bringing stability and assurance to the annual competition.
The upcoming Charity Shield match will feature TNM Super League champions FCB Nyasa Bullets and runners-up Silver Strikers, who will compete for the honors at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on March 30. The previous edition of the NBS Charity Shield raised over K20 million, which was directed towards assisting the victims of Cyclone Freddy in the Southern Region districts.
In 2022, NBS Bank Plc sponsored the Charity Shield with K15 million, and the proceeds from the event supported Cyclone Ana victims in Nsanje district. The continuous support provided by NBS Bank Plc through the Charity Shield demonstrates the Bank’s commitment to social responsibility and community development through sports and education initiatives.
Overall, the increased sponsorship package for this year’s Charity Shield reflects NBS Bank Plc’s dedication to making a positive impact on Malawi’s society and supporting the growth and development of the country’s youth through sport and education initiatives.
