Labour Minister Agnes NyaLonje emphasized the importance of embracing the ideas of the youth in order to facilitate national development. Speaking at the International Leadership Conference on Youth Entrepreneurship and Employability in Lilongwe, she highlighted the potential that young people hold in shaping the future of the country.
The conference, organized by the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) in collaboration with the International Centre for Strategic Leadership (ICSL) and the International Christian Chamber of Commerce, aimed to provide a platform for young people to engage with decision makers and share their innovative ideas.
NyaLonje stressed that without meaningful dialogue between the youth and those responsible for working with them, resources may not be utilized efficiently. She encouraged the empowerment of young people, stating that they possess valuable knowledge and skills that can contribute to the advancement of society.
ICSL President John Kauya, a Malawian based in Botswana, emphasized the need for collaboration in establishing entrepreneurship development centers across Malawi. Drawing on his experience from similar initiatives in Rwanda, Namibia, and other African countries, Kauya expressed optimism about the transformative impact such partnerships could have on the country.
EAM General Secretary, Reverend Francis Mkandawire, highlighted the role of the church in guiding and inspiring young people to realize their full potential. He underscored the importance of exposing youths to messages of empowerment and self-development, expressing hope for a positive mindset shift among the youth.
The conference attracted around 400 young participants, providing them with an opportunity to interact with speakers from the United States and the United Kingdom. This diverse range of perspectives and experiences offered valuable insights and inspiration to the attendees, further fueling their enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and employability.
Overall, the conference served as a platform for promoting dialogue, collaboration, and empowerment among young people in Malawi. By recognizing and harnessing the potential of the youth, stakeholders are working towards a brighter future for the country, where innovation and creativity thrive, and where young people can actively contribute to national development.
