President Lazarus Chakwera has called upon the people of Malawi to shift their mindset in order to achieve the goals outlined in the Malawi 2063 (MW2063) vision. MW2063 is a comprehensive development agenda that envisions transforming Malawi into a prosperous, self-reliant, industrialized, and upper middle-income country by the year 2063.
Addressing a congregation at Mchengautuba CCAP under Livingstonia Synod, President Chakwera expressed his disappointment in the fact that some Malawians prefer to be passive observers, while only a few are actively working towards the development of the nation. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in achieving national progress.
The President drew inspiration from a sermon delivered by Reverend Reuben Msowoya, the Moderator of Livingstonia Synod, encouraging unity and collaboration among Malawians to build a better future for their families, communities, and the country at large. Chakwera highlighted the potential for significant change if every individual in the country is willing to contribute towards its development, asserting that issues such as poverty, hunger, and corruption could be eradicated if everyone plays their part.
In an effort to address concerns raised by the Livingstonia Synod community, President Chakwera was urged to ensure that relief efforts for individuals affected by natural disasters are conducted fairly and without bias. Speaking on behalf of the Synod, Isiah Mhone emphasized the importance of impartial distribution of relief items, citing instances where individuals in Karonga District affected by floods and droughts did not receive adequate assistance. Mhone stressed the need for unity and solidarity among all Malawians, regardless of political affiliation, in times of crisis.
The service attended by the President, First Lady Monica Chakwera, government officials, and members of the Malawi Congress Party, also served as a rededication day for the youth ministry within Livingstonia Synod. Several ministers from the Synod were present, demonstrating their commitment to nurturing and empowering the next generation of leaders within the church and society.
President Chakwera reiterated the message of unity and collaboration towards achieving the long-term goals set out in the MW2063 vision. He emphasized the power of collective action and the need for every Malawian to prioritize the development of the nation. By working together and supporting one another, Malawians can overcome challenges, build a more prosperous future, and fulfill the aspirations of the MW2063 vision.
