The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) is committed to ensuring that Malawi becomes malnutrition-free. As part of their efforts, the GIZ Food and Nutrition Security Programme co-Team Leader, Vitowe Batch, recently visited sites in the company of members of the Parliamentary Committee on Health that have shown progress in reducing cases of malnutrition.
Batch emphasized the importance of continued support in addressing malnutrition-related problems in the country. He highlighted the need for proper coordination among stakeholders to work together towards reducing malnutrition levels and eventually eradicating the issue. Batch also stressed the significance of these efforts in facilitating national development.
Salima District Commissioner, James Mwenda, commended GIZ for collaborating with both State and non-State actors to tackle malnutrition in the lakeshore district. Thanks to these efforts, Salima has seen improvements in reducing malnutrition levels.
Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Mathews Ngwale, echoed Mwenda’s sentiments, emphasizing the positive impact of GIZ and Care Malawi’s projects aimed at addressing malnutrition in Salima. Ngwale highlighted the vital role of good nutrition in promoting health and contributing to national development.
The Food and Nutrition Security Project, a collaborative effort between GIZ and Care Malawi, is currently being implemented in Salima and Dedza districts. This initiative aims to address malnutrition issues and improve food security in these areas.
