Malawi’s First Lady Monica Chakwera, through her Shaping Our Future Foundation (SOFF), recently commended NBS Bank plc for its unwavering support since the foundation’s inception. At a fundraising dinner held at Sanjika Palace, Madam Chakwera presented an award to the ‘Caring Bank’ in recognition of its partnership with SOFF.

Expressing her gratitude, Madam Chakwera acknowledged NBS Bank’s continuous support towards the foundation’s bursaries and mentorship programs. Over the past three years, significant progress has been made in providing bursaries nationwide, conducting girls’ mentorship programs, and supporting economic empowerment initiatives. More than 2500 scholarships have been awarded across 150 Public Secondary Schools, along with in-school mentorship sessions and national girls’ mentorship retreats that have impacted over 1300 girls. This success underscores the effectiveness of combining financial assistance with tailored mentorship programs.

Accepting the award on behalf of NBS Bank Plc, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Temwani Simwaka emphasized the bank’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for girls and women to thrive. NBS Bank places great value on mentorship programs for girls and recognized the importance of partnering with the First Lady’s foundation to support and empower the girl child.

The partnership between NBS Bank and Shaping Our Future Foundation began in 2020 with a shared goal of promoting the holistic development of village girls and street children. The foundation’s primary objective is to increase enrolment, retention, and completion rates of secondary school education for 5000 village girls and boys by 2026.

Through collaboration and support from organizations like NBS Bank plc, SOFF aims to make a lasting impact on the educational and personal development of Malawi’s youth. The dedication and commitment of partners like NBS Bank contribute to the realization of the foundation’s mission and vision for a brighter future for the country’s young generation.

As the First Lady continues to spearhead initiatives that empower and uplift the youth of Malawi, partnerships with corporate entities like NBS Bank play a crucial role in driving positive change and fostering sustainable development. The recognition and appreciation expressed by Madam Chakwera reflect the importance of collaboration and collective efforts in achieving meaningful outcomes for the benefit of the community and the nation as a whole.
