In a charitable gesture, Parliamentarian for Nkhotakota North Constituency, Henry Chimunthu Banda, collaborated with Germans through the Malawi-Hilfe Schwindegg organization to provide humanitarian support to flood survivors at Chauma Island and Kachere Beach in the area of Senior Chief Kanyenda in Nkhotakota district. The distribution exercise took place on March 10 in Nkhotakota where Chimunthu Banda assured the affected people of continued support and aid.

During his visit to Chauma Primary School on the Island, Chimunthu Banda emphasized his commitment to assisting the flood survivors with necessary aid. He mentioned that the government is also stepping in to offer more support and address the challenges faced by the people in those areas. Chimunthu Banda also highlighted that President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is aware of the challenges and is optimistic that they will be resolved in due course.

Chimunthu Banda personally ventured into Lake Malawi to reach out to the affected individuals, acknowledging that many were impacted by the floods. He noted that some survivors were still residing in disaster-prone areas, which prompted him to initiate the relief distribution exercise to provide essential supplies.

After recognizing the lingering plight of the flood survivors on the island, Chimunthu Banda engaged with various well-wishers and organizations to source food and non-food items for their assistance. The County Director and Project Manager for Malawi-Hilfe Schwindegg, Deosi Kumcheza, affirmed the organization’s dedication to ensuring that all those affected by the recent flash floods receive the necessary support from the organization, government, and other partners.

Village Headman Semion Kanyenda expressed gratitude for the timely support provided to the survivors, underscoring the importance of continued assistance from well-wishers and the government. With the backing of generous individuals from Germany through Malawi-Hilfe Schwindegg, Chimunthu Banda distributed food and non-food items such as maize flour, soya pieces, salt, soap, cooking oil, and peanut butter to the flood survivors, alleviating some of the hardships they were facing.

The collaborative efforts between Henry Chimunthu Banda, Malawi-Hilfe Schwindegg, and other supporters have demonstrated a commendable display of compassion and solidarity towards the flood survivors in Nkhotakota. It is through such acts of kindness and generosity that communities can rebuild and recover from natural disasters, fostering resilience and hope for a better future.
