President Lazarus Chakwera has reassured the people of Mzimba District that his administration is committed to completing the infrastructure projects currently underway in the area. During a visit to Edingeni Trading Centre, the President expressed his appreciation for the construction works at M’mbelwa Stadium and M’mbelwa Council Office Complex.
The President highlighted the importance of the 20,000-seater M’mbelwa Stadium, which is expected to cost over K7 billion upon completion. He emphasized that the stadium will play a crucial role in promoting sports development in the country. Additionally, Chakwera underscored the significance of completing the council complex, which has required a government investment of K4.1 billion.
“My Public Works Minister, Jacob Hara, is closely monitoring all ongoing projects, including roads. We are committed to ensuring the timely completion of these projects,” Chakwera stated.
Representing Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa, Senior Chief Mabilabo of Mzimba pledged the support of traditional leaders in helping the government achieve its development objectives. He stressed the importance of development for the well-being of the community and reaffirmed the commitment of chiefs to this cause.
In addition to the ongoing infrastructure projects, the government has resumed the construction of King M’mbelwa University, formerly known as Mombera during the previous administration. The university project signifies the government’s dedication to providing higher education opportunities in the region.
Construction of M’mbelwa Stadium began in 2018, with the responsible contractor, Manobec Construction, reporting that the stadium is now 70 percent complete. Project manager Victor Msowoya provided updates on the progress of the construction works. Similarly, the office complex construction commenced in 2018 and is being overseen by DEC Construction.
The visit to Edingeni Trading Centre was also attended by Vice President Saulos Chilima, who showed his support for the infrastructure projects in Mzimba District. The presence of high-level government officials at the event emphasized the significance of these development initiatives for the region.
