On March 27, Ivokolo Analakely hosted a special event, the celebration of World Theatre Day, organized by the Ministry of Communication and Culture (MCC). This event provided a platform for youth to showcase their talents in the field of theater. Young high school students from various schools participated in the competition based on four captivating themes: “The event of March 29, 1947,” “Sexual education,” “Fight against corruption,” and “Fight against drugs.”

Among these schools were Lycée Jean Joseph Rabearivelo (LJJR), Le Messager Andramasina, Lycée Moderne Ampefiloha (LMA), and La Printanière Ambohitrarahaba, who competed on stage in the final. Each of these schools brilliantly showcased their skills, captivating an audience of about four hundred people at Ivokolo. The group “Sakaizan’ny Teatra Malagasy” from LJJR stood out by winning the first prize, accompanied by a reward of 1,000,000 ariary offered by the MCC for their theatrical piece titled “Fitia Maroloko.” “Fanilon’ny Teatra Malagasy” from LMA took second place, followed by Le Messager Andramasina in third place.

“It is a commendable initiative of the ministry, as it is the first time they dedicate the stage exclusively to the youth. This breathes new life into theater, allowing its transmission from generation to generation. However, it is essential to note that there is a lack of a dedicated theater infrastructure, like the former Tranompokonolona Isotry. Youth are beginning to love theater, so it is imperative to continue offering them opportunities,” said Noelitiana Randriatsitohaina, a member of the association “Fikambanan’ny Mpanao Teatra Malagasy” (FMTM). “The theater invites us to reflect, change our behaviors, and love our culture,” added Fetra Rakotondrasoava, the Secretary-General of the MCC.

“The theater is life. Everything we observe in our daily lives, we portray on stage. It is a great honor for me to perform and be watched by hundreds of people. Theater has taught me many values, including love for family, country, friends, and surroundings,” explained Tambiniaina Rojovola Ratsinjomanana, a young actor in theater and member of “Sakaizan’ny Teatra Malagasy” from LJJR. The theatrical pieces presented on Wednesday will be broadcast on Malagasy television.
