The International Women’s Rights Day, March 8, is an important date to address the defense of women’s rights worldwide.
As tradition dictates for the Association of Women grouped at the Komitim-behivavy 8 martsa (KB8M) in Mahajanga, the celebration has already begun with several activities since last March 2.
On this day, the association led by Saholy Roland plans a gigantic carnival starting at the Cayla garden, with the participation of various sports, political, and cultural women’s associations.
In addition to that, the Alliance Française de Mahajanga is hosting two major events at its headquarters, the Alliance Française de Mahajanga be, this morning.
A conference focused on the theme “Matriarchy in ancient African societies and in Madagascar” will be led by Dr. Fitahinjanahary Ralaiharinony, director of the School of International Business Languages (ELCI) at the University of Mahajanga.
Following that, a gathering of inspiring women will bring together great guests such as the artist Andrée Étheve. Female entrepreneurs like Carole Lepront, Fanyah, Dvanah Ranomenjanahary, and Fatima Darwiche, president of the AFM, will also be present at this gathering.
Expected
Guest artists like Queen Tahiene and Réal Poétasse, Clairita Rmora, and Siciah Rycia will also be present among the audience at 10 a.m.
For the KB8M, sports activities, including a foot race and a zumba session, opened the festivities on Sunday, March 2nd, in front of the large baobab tree by the sea.
An ecumenical service took place at the FJKM Ziona temple on Sunday afternoon.
“All associations are invited and welcome to the carnival planned for today. Participation is free, and there is no distribution of numbers for the parade. It will end by the sea,” explained KB8M president, Saholy Roland.
The associations of gendarmes’ wives, the National Police, and the Armed Forces also organized a blessing service for the celebration of March 8th at the military chapel in Androva last Wednesday.
The International Women’s Rights Day, a day off but paid, is eagerly awaited by women in Mahajanga, but especially by the residents. The urban municipality of Mahajanga has decided to close the one-stop shops and cashiers at the city hall all day this Friday. These counters are run by women.
