The Gendarmes will play against Cosfa tonight at the Mahamasina Sports Palace. This Friday, it’s the semi-finals of the Zone 7 club championship. Two Malagasy clubs will compete in the boys’ final. The best is yet to come. The semi-finals of the 28th edition of the Zone 7 club championship promise to be electrifying. Favorites of the competition, four Reunionese teams are still in the running, three from Madagascar and one from Seychelles.

Two Reunionese clubs, Saint-Denis Olympique and Tampon Gecko, will face each other in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. On the Malagasy side, the National Gendarmerie volleyball (GNVB) team will face the Armed Forces Sports Club (Cosfa) in the boys’ category. The other girls’ semi-final will be between the GNVB women’s team and Anse Royale from Seychelles.

The second boys’ semi-final, scheduled for this Friday at 6 pm at the Sports Palace, will be a rematch of the national summit final between GNVB and Cosfa. On paper, the Gendarmes, five-time regional champions with eleven national titles, are in a favorable position. Their players almost formed the national team at the last Indian Ocean Games. The Military team is also multiple winners of the Indian Ocean Cup, with their last title dating back to 2007.

The first men’s semi-final, scheduled at 2 pm, will be a clash between the two leaders of the Reunionese championship, Saint-Denis Olympique and Tampon Gecko, the reigning champion and its runner-up. SDO completed the podium at the last zonal tournament in Mauritius, while TGV claimed the top spot.

The final showdown will be between a Malagasy team and a Reunionese team in the boys’ category. The GNVB women’s team will play their second semi-final in this Zone 7 competition. The Betongolo girls will play at 4 pm against Anse Royale Ladies, the vice-champion in 2023. Beaten in the third-place match last year, the Gendarmes settled for fourth place in their first participation.

The first women’s semi-final, scheduled at noon, will also be a showdown between the two best clubs from Reunion, Saint-Denis Olympique, the reigning champion in the Reunionese championship, and its runner-up, VBC Saint-Denis. SDO, with seven titles in the Indian Ocean club cup, finished third at the previous Zone 7 summit in Mauritius. This Reunionese club eliminated GNVB in the placement match.

The finals, preceded by matches for third place, will take place on Saturday. 12 p.m. (Women) Tampon Gecko (Reunion) – Saint-Denis Olympique (Reunion); 2 p.m. (Men) Tampon Gecko (Reunion) – Saint-Denis Olympique (Reunion); 4 p.m. (Women) National Gendarmerie (Madagascar) – Anse Royale (Seychelles); 6 p.m. (Men) National Gendarmerie (Madagascar) – Cosfa (Madagascar).
