Ghanaians have their agency in Tsiazotafo. Involved in a human trafficking case, two Ghanaians and one Malagasy have been in detention at the Tsiafahy prison since February 14. A horrifying crime.
Human trafficking is the reason behind the incarceration of two Ghanaians and one Malagasy at the Tsiafahy prison. They have been in pretrial detention since February 14. One of these Africans allegedly raped one of their victims, according to the national police in charge of the investigation.
It all started with the complaints of two women, aged 28 and 30, filed at the Central Service of Special Investigations and the Fight against Document Fraud in Anosy, on February 5.
The police investigation revealed that the Ghanaians operate a placement agency based in Tsiazotafo. They claim to be able to send migrants abroad. In December 2023, the two women came across their enticing offer. During their interview in their office, the scammers persuaded them and offered them cashier positions in a large store in Mauritius. They assured that the working conditions would be perfect. The interested parties were convinced. The Ghanaian nationals then extorted four million ariary from each of them as application fees.
Ordeal
In early January, one of them actually flew to Mauritius with one of the Ghanaians. However, once there, she never took on the cashier position that had been promised to her initially. Instead, she was made to work as a maid in a hotel, mainly tasked with washing glasses. After nine days, she resigned. The employer did not give her any remuneration. When she wanted to return to the country, her companion administered a sleeping pill to her and sexually assaulted her, according to the police.
The local Malagasy community helped her escape this ordeal and repatriated her. Her friend, who stayed in Madagascar, learned of her terrible ordeal. She also abandoned the project and demanded a refund. The fake recruiters only refunded her two million ariary.
During their investigation, the detectives apprehended the two main suspects and their Malagasy accomplice in 67Ha, on February 10. It emerged that they had been involved in illicit recruitment and human trafficking for a long time. They had already sent three Ghanaians and five Malagasy to Mauritius, all lured with false promises. The women became maids and the men, masons, as soon as they arrived on the neighboring island.
