Three dead and two injured were reported while law enforcement forces and the fokonolona were chasing dahalos from Fenoarivobe to Maevatanàna.
A foot and motorcycle pursuit, starting from the Fenoarivobe district to the Maevatanàna constituency, aiming to recover forty-four cattle stolen by a dozen dahalos, resulted in the deaths of three individuals on Sunday. Two of them were members of the fokonolona. The other was a dahalo.
Two injured persons were also reported. One is a military officer from the Army Personnel and Service Administration Corps. In an ambush, he was shot in the head and left foot. He was riding a motorcycle with a civilian who crashed violently.
According to information from a colleague on site, a cattle theft occurred that day around 3 p.m. at Mahatsinjo Fihaonana, a village located in the Ambohitromby Fenoarivobe commune, in the Bongolava region.
The cattle belonged to two different owners. They were grazing in a field when the dahalos took them. Their caretakers could do nothing against the gang armed with rifles and various bladed weapons. The place where they were is an hour and a half walk from the village to the West.
Ambush
The men and the only soldier in the area launched a pursuit of the criminals. This soldier and his driver descended a steep slope. Unfortunately, this is where the dahalos laid an ambush for them. The soldier was brought back and evacuated to Tsiroanomandidy. His weapon is said to have been taken by the criminals, according to some information.
The other pursuers continued to Betaimboraka, already in the Betaimboay Maevatanàna commune. They were supported by gendarmes. They exchanged fire with the dahalos around 4:30 p.m. Two of them died during the shootout. The other group also lost a member. They retreated and abandoned the animals. Insecurity plunges the population of Bongolava into its worst nightmare. Tuesday evening, a hundred dahalos besieged the village of Ampoaramaso-Maritampona, in the Tsiroanomandidy district. They left with sixty cattle, said the mayor to the colleague in the region.
