Thanks to the initiative of Minister Edgard Razafindravahy, vanilla-producing countries have agreed to create an organization. The objective of this platform is to defend the price of vanilla.
Historical. Gone are the pressures from all sides and foreign interferences in the vanilla market. The producing countries have decided to take matters into their own hands. Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, witnessed an unprecedented event yesterday. In the margins of the 13th ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization, Minister of Industrialization and Commerce, Edgard Razafindravahy, took the initiative to gather representatives of vanilla-producing countries with the aim of creating an international structure to defend the price of vanilla and protect the entire value chain. “Madagascar, with its history and significant contribution to global vanilla production, feels the duty to take the lead,” emphasized Minister Edgard Razafindravahy.
Charity begins at home; it is logical that Madagascar, the world’s leading producer of vanilla, cares about its flagship export product. The price of vanilla has fallen very low in the past two years for various reasons, including foreign pressures. State-imposed floor prices were deemed inappropriate, and industry players called for price liberalization. As a result, the price per kilogram of vanilla plummeted.
Sacred Union. Adventures that can be avoided in the future thanks to the creation of an organization, as exists for other products. “The future organization will address issues of price stability, sustainable development of the sector, strengthening of value chains, search for new markets, and finally the promotion of natural vanilla to consumers worldwide,” argues Edgard Razafindravahy. The Minister of Industrialization and Commerce subsequently issued a solemn call to producing countries to work towards creating this organization. “Madagascar will need your expertise, experience, and commitment for the success of this initiative,” he emphasized.
A call that immediately found resonance as representatives from Uganda, Papua New Guinea, and the Comoros joined the idea launched by Madagascar. A sacred union that will remain in the annals and whose effectiveness will benefit each country. “It is a declaration of unity among producing countries, a model illustrating that international collaboration can have a significant impact,” concludes Minister Razafindravahy. There is no doubt.
