A large amount of fake money was seized by the Regional Judicial Police Service of Vakinankaratra on Monday in Antsirabe.

Eighteen million ariary was found in the possession of a man coming from the capital. Two residents of Antsirabe, his alleged accomplices, were arrested with him. His intention was to take advantage of the Easter holiday, the large crowds, and the commercial activities taking place in this city to spread his counterfeit twenty thousand ariary notes.

According to the police, all three of them hoped to easily sell the duplicates. Their plan did not work out as expected when they were reported by a person with good intentions. They were brought to the prosecutor’s office after questioning.

The police and gendarmerie of Antsirabe have stepped up efforts to prevent this type of offense that could threaten security before, during, and after the holiday. A flow of people is already being observed on Independence Avenue where various stands and toys are set up. Law enforcement agencies remain vigilant. Just yesterday, they arrested six pickpockets among the crowd.
